Burn Class

Welcome to Burn Class!

In Burn Class, Year 2 and Year 3 learn together. Our class is taught by Mrs Smithson on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and by Mrs Tattersall on Tuesdays.

Miss Stothard supports in our class every morning. Mr Tattersall and Miss Smith support children’s learning across Burn and Cover class. They run catch-up programmes and ensure that children’s well-being and individual needs are met. Working closely with the class teachers, we come together as a team to make sure every child feels happy, supported, and challenged.

We use Metacognition across the curriculum to help us become independent, engaged problem solvers and learners. Our aim is to develop a love of learning, while encouraging one another to always try our best. We support our peers, celebrate each other’s successes, and make sure we put a smile on someone’s face. Whether in Maths, Religious Education, Music, or English, we work hard and support one another to succeed.

RugbyPE

PE will take place twice per week. Children should come to school in their PE kit on those days. For safety reasons, earrings and other jewellery must be removed before PE sessions, and long hair should be tied back. Please support us by ensuring jewellery is removed before school.

On Wednesdays, PE is taught by Mrs Tattersall, who brings lots of energy and fresh ideas. On Thursdays, the whole school will go swimming together to Catterick pool.

Supporting Learning at Home

Children are expected to read regularly at home. This should be recorded in their Reading Record, with an adult’s signature. Fostering a love of reading has endless benefits – it fuels imagination, broadens vocabulary, strengthens comprehension skills, and opens up new worlds.

As the year moves forward the children may bring some additional work to complete as home to support and enhance their learning. This will include some number work, reading and research for our upcoming topics.

WE have access to several online learning platforms such as Spelling Shed,  Arthimagicians and TTRS. Password and usernames will be shared later in the Autumn Term, once the children have become confident using these platforms confidently.

We also encourage support at home with times tables, as they form a vital foundation for many areas of maths. Secure knowledge of times tables (and the related division facts) builds confidence and improves attainment. To help make this fun and engaging, children have access to Times Table Rock Stars, and additional resources can be provided by school – please just ask if needed.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and can’t wait to see all the wonderful things the children in our class will achieve!

Best wishes,

The Burn Class Team
